In this overview report current methods of kinesitherapy after stroke has been presented.
The Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) (following Kabat), NeuroDevelopmental Treatment (NDT-Bobath) and Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (CIT according to Taub) has been discribed. To this last one the special attention has been paid.
CIT is a relatively new method of rehabilitation in which using affected limb is constraint by immobilisation of healthy extremity. This method is a kind of the behavioral therapy. Mainly that method is used in rehabilitation after stroke especialy in the older patients. The healthy upper limb uses to be immobilised for couple of hours per day during two or three weeks. Some special exercises has been worked out. Currently in two german centers (Jena and Berlin) and in seven american centers the scientific evaluation on using CIT in stroke patients from three to six month after onset are being performing. The amount of scientific reports on this subject is still growing up.
