Abstract

The authors of this dissertation discuss a relation between dementia of various etiology and depression, on the basis of medical literature and their own clinical observations. They point to difficulties in differentiation of cognitive impairment observed in early stages of dementia and depression. They overview available diagnostic criteria for both groups as well as diagnostic methods (psychiatric, neurological, neuropsychological, neuroimaging and laboratory methods).
