Abstract

The diabetes and the stroke are becoming illnesses of the considerable degree of spreading and high death-rate and mortalities. Coincidence of both these illnesses worsens the prognosis. The diabetes increases the risk of stroke, changes itís clinical presentation and has an impact on itís outcomes. The influence of the diabetes on the stroke has a relationship with chronic complications of the diabetes - macroangiopathy and less microangiopathy, resulting from the toxic effect of hyperglycemia, glication, oxidative stress, dyslipidemia, hemodynamic and haemostatic factors. More optimal glycemia control, measured with the level of the glycosylated hemoglobin, brings the reduction of complications of the microangiopathy type, while the reduction of complications of the macroangiopathy type is less certain. Only the multidirectional treatment of the diabetes gives the significant reduction of the cerebral events.
