Abstract

Essential thrombocythemia is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder which characterizes of increasing platelets, recurrent veno- and arteria thrombosis and occasionally bleeding. Cerebral ischaemic stroke can occur during the disease. The autors describe a case of 67-year old women with essential thrombocythemia with ischaemic stroke treated recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) with success. The hemiparesis resolved, but hemorrhagic diathesis as well as thrombophlebitis in lower limb occurred after treatment. Application of heparin and aspirin with hydroxacarbamid chronically proved to be effective. The authors did not find any case report of essential thrombocythemia with stroke treated with rt-PA in the literature. Authors also would like to present problems which can appear during thrombolysis in patient with thrombocythemia.
