Abstract

Ischaemic stroke in young adults has been considered a relatively rare event. The most frequent etiologic factor is cardioembolism. Lacunar infarcts accounting for < 10% of all stroke occur in subjects < 45 years of age. Lacunar infarcts seem to be a homogeneus subgroup of stroke but due to anatomical or clinical criteria the etiology can be different. That is the reason why lacunar infarcts require specific and multidirectional diagnostics.
