Abstract

Currently the standard treatment for the patients with acute ischemic stroke is intravenous thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator in the time window to 4,5 hours. The paper presents an overview of invasive endovascular methods such as intra-arterial thrombolysis and mechanical embolectomy with use of different devices, which can be used over a longer time window. The methods approved by the Food and Drug Administration were discussed more extensively. The paper also discusses the results of major studies evaluating the efficacy and safety of the above methods.
