It is with great sadness that we received the news of the death of Prof. Marian Zembala — an outstanding cardiac surgeon, transplantologist, long-term director of the Silesian Center for Heart Diseases in Zabrze, and former Minister of Health. He went down in history as an operator in the first heart transplant in Poland, performed under the supervision of prof. Zbigniew Religa, and the author of many pioneering heart and lung transplants.

He was a teacher and authority for many generations of doctors. We will greatly miss him, and we honor his memory.

Z wielkim smutkiem przyjęliśmy wiadomość o śmierci prof. Mariana Zembali — wybitnego kardiochirurga, transplantologa, wieloletniego dyrektora Śląskiego Centrum Chorób Serca w Zabrzu, byłego ministra zdrowia. W historii zapisał się jako uczestnik pierwszego przeszczepu serca w Polsce pod kierunkiem prof. Zbigniewa Religi oraz autor wielu pionierskich przeszczepów serca i płuc. Był nauczycielem i autorytetem dla wielu pokoleń lekarzy.

Profesor Marian Zembala był członkiem Rady Naukowej "Kardiologii Polskiej" i aktywnie wspierał rozwój naszego czasopisma.
