Diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties in extranodal marginal zone lymphoma of the BALT system - case report
Onkol. Prak. Klin 2005;1(3):169-174.
Abstract
We described 44 years old woman with malaise, fever, weight loss, cough with hemoptysis and recurrent,
antibiotic-resistant pneumonias. The lung biopsy led to the diagnosis of BALT (bronchus-associated
lymphoid tissue) lymphoma with bone marrow, liver and spleen evolvement. Six cycles of COP (cyclophosphamide,
vincristine, prednison) chemotherapy resulted in only partial response without any regression
in chest CT imaging. The superior and middle lobectomy of the right lung was followed with two
cycles of ICE (ifosfamide, carboplatin, etoposide) chemotherapy and six doses of rituximab. Hematopoietic
stem cells were collected after chemotherapy. The treatment allowed to achieve a complete remission.
Described case presents surgery with subsequent immunochemotherapy as effective treatment of
extranodal marginal zone lymphoma.
