Abstract

Adrenocortical carcinoma is a rare neoplasm characterized by high malignancy and - it is very important - by heterogenous clinical course. In most cases the disease is recognized in an advanced stage and it is the main reason of definitely poor prognosis. The results of palliative systemic treatment with mitotane or cisplatin-based chemotherapy are very disappointing and the most important prognostic agent is still possibility of total resection of an early diagnosed primary tumor. This article presents the case of a 53-years-old metastatic adrenocortical carcinoma patient, who was admitted to Chemotherapy Department of ZOZ MSWiA of Warmińsko-Mazurskie Oncology Centre in Olsztyn, in order to diagnose and start treatment of a large tumor localized in supraclavicular area, that occurred to be a metastasis of adrenocortical carcinoma. This presentation undoubtedly confirms a very aggressive character of this disease, its high resistance to chemotherapy and atypical and unforseeable clinical manifestation.
