Contemporary systemic preoperative treatment of breast cancer - chemotherapy
Onkol. Prak. Klin 2008;4(2):47-56.
Abstract
Preoperative systemic treatment proved benefit in treatment of locally advanced breast cancer, yet no
regimen is recommended as treatment of choice. No clinical benefit was found for neoadjuvant versus
adjuvant setting in terms of progression-free and overall survival for operable breast cancer. The only
benefit is a possibility of breast conserving treatment, but multidisciplinary approach is mandatory in
these cases. For this report the author reviewed the literature to determine most beneficial preoperative
systemic treatment regimens and identify patients who are likely to respond to specific agents by finding
response predictors.
