Oxycodone — is it a weak or strong opioid? A case report

Abstract

Pain accompanies many chronic diseases and malignant neoplasms. Analgesic therapy aims at achieving the maximal result at the minimum of adverse effects. The analgesic effect of opium has been known since the 19th century, its acetyl derivate, heroine came soon after. Scientists still search the drug which action is close to the ideal. It seams that oxycodone is the new alternative in Poland. In the paper, we present the case of 64 years old patient, who was treated with oxycodone effectively. The drug was apparently efficacious in controling receptive as well as nonreceptive pain, that may be helpful in reducing the amount of intaking medicines. In the presented case , the oxycodone resulted in satisfactory pain control at insignificant adverse effects accompanying.
