Durable disease stabilization associated with octreotide LAR treatment in a patient with metastatic carcinoid of the small intestine
Abstract
59-year old woman was admitted to the Comprehensive Cancer Center in Bialystok in October 2001. Carcinoid of the small intestine with liver metastases was diagnosed. The patient under went right hemicolectomy and partial resection of the small intestine. Treatment with octreotide LAR was initiated because of severe symptoms related to serotonin syndrome. Moreover, the patient has been treated with two doses of somatostatin analogue radioisotope (3,65GBq Y-90 DOTA TATE). Durable disease stabilization is being observed until now — above 12 years after octreotide LAR therapy initiation. Currently, treatment with octreotide LAR is being continuated.
