Non-small lung cancer patent with mutations in EGFR gene — diagnostic case
Abstract
63-years old woman was admitted to the DCChP in Wrocław to diagnose pleural effusion on the left side. During diagnostic procedures, diagnose of lung tumor was established, but no diagnostic specimens was obtained in bronchoscopic examination. Final diagnosis of adenocarcinoma with presence of EGFR mutation was determined on basis of examination of malignant cells identified in pleural effusion. Patient started treatment with erlotynib. Ability of examination of cytological materials is valuable option, which allow to benefit patients without diagnosis based on histopathological tests.
