Since 2021, Neurologia i Neurochirurgia Polska (the Polish Journal of Neurology and Neurosurgery, PJNNS) has published twice a year an issue that contains a compilation of articles on various aspects of a particular neurological subspecialty topic, a Leading Topic (LT). Each LT consists of manuscripts including invited reviews, reviews, and original research articles. Each LT is accompanied by an editorial written by the LT editor appointed by the PJNNS editors-in-chief. So far, PJNNS has published four LTs (Tab. 1).

In this very first issue of 2023, we are pleased to present the fifth LT, this time on neurological complications related to COVID-19. This LT has been edited by Prof. Alina Kułakowska from the Medical University of Bialystok in Bialystok, Poland, the President Elect of the Polish Neurological Society. This is also the first issue in which LT articles have made up the entire issue. As the Journal’s editors, we are very proud of the success of LT. LT articles are frequently downloaded and extensively cited. We plan to continue this feature in forthcoming issues of PJNNS.

We would also like to thank our reviewers for providing assistance to PJNNS by reviewing the submitted manuscripts. They are partly responsible for the ever-improving bibliometrics of the Journal. We are particularly grateful to those reviewers who have provided us with multiple reviews. Table 2 lists those who provided reviews for PJNNS in 2022. The names of reviewers who provided three or more reviews are highlighted in green.
