Treatment of elderly patients with Hodgkin lymphoma

Abstract

In recent years it has been progressed in treatment of patients with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL).
Nowadays in younger patients, 5-year overall survival achieves 70–80%. Good effects of treatment
do not apply to patients over 60, who comprise 15–30% of the total HL population. Elderly patients
with HL carry a worse prognosis because of a higher incidence of advanced stages, comorbidities,
or intolerance of treatment. The literature is sparse and no prospective randomized studies exist.
This article summarizes treatment possibilities in this population of patients.
