Differential diagnosis of Philadelphia-negative chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms

Abstract

In 2008 World Health Organization (WHO) introduced numerous changes into previously used classification of chronic myeloproliferative diseases (CMPD); revised name in new classification is chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). Changes especially concerns Philadelphia- negative chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms and clonal disorders associated with eosinophilia. It was possible due to understanding the relation between specific cytogenetic and molecular aberrations and occurrence of characteristic symptoms of MPN, especially in patients with polycythaemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, primary myelofibrosis and myeloproliferative neoplasms associated with eosinophilia.
