Rok 2018 rokiem ważnych rocznic w historii nefrologii i dializoterapii w Polsce
Abstract
Stemming from internal medicine, nephrology as an independent specialty started to emerge in Poland in the late 1920’s. Over the past seventy years a great number of essential events have marked the milestones in its remarkable development. It was in 1953 when Poland’s first peritoneal dialysis was performed in Warsaw. 5 years later, in 1958, the first haemodialysis session took place in Poznań and the first clinic of nephrology was opened. The Polish Society of Nephrology dates back to 1983 and in 1988 erythropoietin was first introduced to renal treatment. These breakthroughs are well worth highlighting both for the sake of refreshing the memories of
those who witnessed them and putting the younger generations of nephrologists in the broader picture of the specialty.
