Peritoneal dialysis in a pregnant woman with end-stage renal disease

Dorota Frankiewicz1, Maria Wanic-Kossowska
Forum Nefrologiczne 2017;10(4):273-278.

Abstract

Pregnancy in women with chronic kidney disease has been considered as a challenging event both for the mother and the fetus. Typical for kidney disease complications as anemia, hypertension, electrolytes and acid-base balance require a special intense treatment. The possibility of success of the pregnancy depends on adequate dialysis and pharmacological strategies. The complex and precarious condition of the pregnant woman on dialysis requires close collaboration between the patient, nephrologist, dialysis staff, obstetrician and neonatologist to maximize the chance of successful pregnancy.
