Dialysate cooling — simple and safe prevention method of the cardiovascular disturbances development in dialysed patients

Abstract

Cardiovascular mortality is a very big problem among dialysed patients. This is up to three times higher than in the general population. CKD is an independent risk factor of development and progression of cardiovascular disturbances. From the other hand changes in the cardiovascular system promotes development and progression of chronic kidney disease. Because of this even 75% patients starting dialysis have changes in the cardiovascular system. Efforts to decrease mortality and/or reverse change in the heart were taken for many years. Many methods were studied, among them is decreasing dialysate temperature. In the presented review results of studies and metaanalysis concerning impact of cooling dialysate on mortality and progresion of dialysis cardiomiopathy are presented.
