Autonomous parathyroid nodule in peritoneal dialysis patient treated with cinacalcet — a case report
Forum Nefrologiczne 2012;5(4):316-320.
Abstract
Secondary hyperparathyroidism is the most common
clinical manifestation of chronic kidney
disease-mineral and bone disorder. None of the
treatment methods of this disorder is fully effective.
One of the new methods of inhibition of
parathyroid hormone secretion is the use of cina -
calcet. The main problem in the treatment with
calcimimetics is correct control of calcium-phosphate
balance and serum parathyroid hormone
level. The presence of parathyroid adenoma in
secondary hyperparathyroidism makes treatment
with cinacalcet ineffective. In this case report we
describe the presence of parathyroid adenoma in
peritoneal dialysis patient with secondary hyperparathyroidism,
which was diagnosed after 3 years
of treatment with cinacalcet.
