Abstract

Introduction: Psoriasis is still incurable inflammatory chronic skin disorder which impairs significantly patients quality of life. Although many modern treatments approaches patients require continuing dermatological care. Accurate skin care with use of emollients in all psoriatic patients independently on disease activity is the basic treatment. The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy, tolerability and safety as well as level of treatment satisfaction with two emollients: Cerkobaza and Cerkoderm 15 among patients with moderate psoriasis (PASI 10–15) exposed simultaneously to consecutive 20 narrow UVB (UVB-NB) irradiations.

Material and methods: Study group consisted of 60 patients with plaque psoriasis 28 women (mean age 43.2; SD ± 2.3) and 32 men (mean age 41.6; SD ± 3.1). Patients were divided into two groups (each with 30 patients): group A used Cerkoderm 15 and group B used Cerkobaza twice daily for 4 weeks for whole body. Patients were irradiate 5 times a week for 4 weeks, starting with dose 0.2 J/cm2 UVB-NB.

Results: After 20 irradiations significant PASI decrease was observed both in group A and B. Similar observation were related to VAS and DLQI. Satisfaction assessment with use of both emollients was very high by patients as well as by doctors.

Conclusions: Performed research shows that regular use of emollients with UVB-NB therapy leads to good clinical outcome. Investigated emollients Cerkoderm 15 and Cerkobaza fulfill the criteria of emollients of choice with high tolerability index and should be additional therapeutic options in patients treated with standard therapies or with combination with UVB-NB phototherapy.
