Abstract

Lyell’s syndrome is a life-threatening skin condition that is caused by a reaction to drugs. Clinical presentation includes erythematous lesions with blisters on the skin and mucosal erosions. The clinical picture resembles an extensive skin burn. The mortality rate is around 30% and depends on the clinical status of the patient, the time of initiation of treatment and aggressiveness of therapy. As the etiology of the disease is not fully understood the treatment is mostly symptomatic. In the systemic treatment steroids, cyclosporine, immunoglobulins, infliximab and plasmapheresis can be considered.
