Abstract

Introduction: Skin overreactivity for conditioning and enviromental factors is defined as sensitive skin. Sensitive skin is a common phenomenon in all age groups and may be affecting 30–50% of general population. Sensitive skin is also present in common dermatological diseases, such as seborrheic dermatitis and acne rosacea. The aim of the study was to assess safety and tolerance of Tolerans Sensitive Dermedic® products: cleansing gel-syndet, alleviating and moisturizing day cream, alleviating anti-age cream, eye-and-eyelid cream in patients with reactive skin, seborrheic dermatitis and acne rosacea.

Material and methods: The study consisted of 30 patients, including 10 with reactive skin, 10 with seborrhoeic dermatitis and 10 with acne rosacea and lasted 28 days. In all patients efficiency (alleviating skin changes, irritation reduction), tolerance and comfort of Tolerans Sensitive products were examined. All objective parameters were evaluated on 0–3 points scale (0 = absence of any changes, 1 = light changes, 2 = moderate changes, 3 = intensive changes). All subjective parameters were evaluated on 0–10 points ordinal scale (0 = absence of symptom, 10 = symptom of maximal intensity). Efficiency and tolerance of products was evaluated at the end of the study by investigators on following 0–3 points scale (0 = no effectiveness/tolerance, 1 = mediocre effectiveness/tolerance, 2 = good effectiveness/tolerance, 3 = very good effectiveness/tolerance).

Results: After 7 days of treatment the majority of the patients reported well tolerance of used products, its high efficiency was also observed at 3rd visit. 95% and 93% of patients reported very good tolerance of products after 7 and 28 days of treatment respectively. Also in investigators’ evaluation used products were well tolerated by patients. Significant decline in exfoliation and abrasiveness and reduction of erythema were observed in all studied groups during the treatment. Similar observations in all studied groups concerning reduction of pruritus, stinging and skin tension were also made. Globally, significant improvement in majority of subjective and objective skin parameters was noticed.

Conclusions: The Tolerans Sensitive products are efficient, safe and easy in use method of improvement reactive skin and simultaneously are a valuable complement of pharmacological treatment in acne rosacea or seborrhoeic dermatits.
