THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CARRYING ANGLE and DISTAL EXTEND of 2nd and 4th FINGERTIPS.
open access
Abstract
The angle towards the lateral side between arm and forearm when forearm is in full extension and supination is defined as the carrying angle. It is well defined that the 2nd finger is longer in women whereas the 4th finger is longer in men due to in-utero hormonal effect. In the present study, the relationship between the carrying angle and the distal extend of 2nd and 4th fingertips. Findings revealed that the carrying angle is greater both in left and right sides in women than men. In addition, while distal extends of the 2nd fingertips were longer in women, 4th fingertips were longer in men. There was moderately positive correlation between the carrying angle and the distal fingertip lengths. Therefore it could be suggested that the morphometric factors could play role on the distal extend of fingertips other than the hormonal effects.
