Abstract

Cardiovascular involvement in patients with neoplasmatic disease are not uncommon. Widely used imaging methods allow to detect neoplasmatic metastasis within cardiovascular system more often than in the past. Pericardial and endocardial (i.e. NBTE — nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis) pathology in cancer patients are common. Some of them (cardiac tamponade, superior vena cava syndrome and complete atrioventricular block) require specific management (paracentesis, irradiation or pacing). New treatment strategies are now available (pericardio-peritoneal communication done with balloon used in invasive cardiology, or stenting in vena cava superior syndrome). Before each procedure the question about risk and benefits, as well as the probability of symptomatic improvements in terminal ill patients has to be answered.
