Abstract

Multidisciplinary teams are the basis of the provision of palliative care. Often teams are expected to perform in a sophisticated way without the consideration of the development of the team and its members. There is a need to consider the way teams function, looking in particular at the roles within teams, leadership, team development and the resolution of conflicts. In this way a team can develop and aspire to the ideal - a team which can provide the best possible care for patients and their families in a co-ordinated and effective way.
