Abstract

The 12^th Polish Conference entitled “Advances in palliative medicine and cancer pain management” was organized on 1^st of June 2006 in The Centre of Oncology in Warsaw. The leading subject was: Does dying have to be painful? and provoked all the participants to reflection upon the most important question on life, illness and medical practise. Indeed medicine sometimes seems powerless facing death but never is the doctor. Personally, I think this is the question that every doctor asks himself. The subject of the conference encouraged me to look closer at terminally ill patients’ needs in practice and literature.
