Protein C anticoagulant system in acute leukaemias
Abstract
Acute leukaemias development is connected with subclinical activation of coagulation. Haemostatic disturbances – as a result of endothelium damage and/or impaired synthetic function of the liver – not always manifest as an overt haemorrhage or thrombotic disease. Compensatory mechanisms competence, in so far as it affect protein C anticoagulant system, assures haemostatic balance between prothrombotic and prohaemorrhage factors.
Investigation was performed in 20 newly diagnosed patients with acute leukaemias. At the moment of diagnosis, plasma concentrations decrease of anticoagulation proteins, synthesised by the liver was observed. There was also noted an increase of sTM and significant decrease of sEPCR concentrations – markers of endothelial damage.
