Abstract

Primary hyperparathyroidism can be manifested by the presence of psychopathological symptoms. In many cases, especially in the early phase of the disease, these symptoms may be the only clinical manifestation. The aim of study was to collect the results of the most important published studies on the prevalence of mental disorders in the PHPT. The results of clinical trials indicate a significant increase of depressive symptoms, anxiety, impairment of the cognitive functions and a reduced quality of sleep and quality of life among patients with PHPT. The presented studies and case reports indicate a regression of psychopathological symptoms after parathyroidectomy.
