Barbara Rybacka-Chabros

Abstract

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death. More than half of lung cancer cases is diagnosed in persons age 65 years of life or older. Diagnostic difficulties in elderly are connected with elderly- related concomitant diseases. For that reason, in majority cases, lung cancer is diagnosed in advanced stage. The key role in diagnostic procedures plays the cooperation between patient’s family with GP doctor and other specialists. It is difficult to investigate the diagnostic principles that can be applied to the care of older patient with lung cancer. Only small number persons aged over 65 years are enrolled into the randomized trials. It is necessary to construct professional staffs consisted with different specialists to improve early diagnosis of lung cancer in the elderly.
