Abstract

The metronomic therapy (MCT) is a promising method of anticancer treatment. Its purpose is to inhibit angiogenesis which is essential for the tumor’s growth and evolution. It is achieved by giving the patient low doses of drugs in short intervals. That differs the metronomic therapy from the conventional chemotherapy which is based on administration of maximal tolerated doses of drugs every few weeks. Metronomic therapy helps to minimize the side effects and to achieve favorable results in cancer patients. Nowadays, it is used as subsequent line of treatment, mainly in breast cancer, but also in many other neoplastic diseases.
