Author Guidelines

Journal follows editorial recommendations of International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) (available at: http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/).

Via Medica strongly recommends journal editors to adhere to the principles of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), particularly to deal with acts of ethical misconduct. For more information Authors, Readers and Editors may visit the COPE website: http://publicationethics.org/.

Preparation of manuscripts:

In general, all articles presented in NMR are published in English, however in special cases the Editorial Board has the right to publish certain texts in Polish.

The text of the manuscript should be written in .doc (MS Word). Margins should be no less than 3 cm. Is it advised to you the font size 12 and 1.5 space between the lines.

The manuscript should contain: Title page, Abstract, Key words, Text, Acknowledgements, References, Charts and Figures. Abbreviations, if used, should be defined in brackets on their first appearance in the text. The abbreviations, that are not accepted by the international groups of experts, should be avoided.

Articles should have the following structure:

Title page should include the full title of the paper, a short title of no more than 40 characters including spaces (used as a running head), full names of the authors, academic degrees, affiliations, the name, address, phone and fax numbers as well as e-mail address of the person responsible for editorial correspondence. The title page should include the sources of any support for the work in the form of grants, equipment or drugs.

Abstracts. Provide on a separate page an abstract of not more than 400 words. Articles containing original data should include a structured abstract with the following four paragraphs, labeled: Background, Material and methods, Results, and Conclusions. The abstract should be followed by a list of 3–10 keywords or short phrases. When possible, the terms used should be from the Medical Subject Headings list of the Index Medicus. Letters to editors, historical notes and articles from the section “Images in nuclear medicine” do not require abstract.

Text. Full papers of an experimental or observational nature may be usefully divided into sections headed: Introduction, Material and methods, Results and Discussion, although reviews may require a different format. Do not exceed the allowed space for a specific type of article: original article — 3000 words, review article — 6 000 words, letters — 1000 words. The aforementioned limits do not include abstract, tables and references. Any additional information and acknowledgements can be placed between the text and references.

References. The references should be listed and numbered consecutively according to their appearance in the text (not the alphabetical order). The style of references is Vancuver according to NLM: (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/policy/cit_format.html).

Journals. Should include: the consecutive reference number, names of the authors (list three first with annotation “et al.”), title, journal title (abbreviated in accordance with Index Medicus), year, volume (Arabic numerals), issue number, first and the last page. Please do not use the phrases “in press”, “in preparation”, “oral communication”. They can be used in the reasonable cases in the text.

Books. The consecutive reference number, author, title, the editor, the place and the year of publication should be given. Reference to the specific chapter should include: name of the author and his initials, chapter title, pages, name of the author (editor) of the book and his initials, the editor, year and place of publication and pages.

Figures and photographs. Figures and photographscan be black and white or colour, numbered, send in .jpg, .tif, or .eps. format file (at least 300 dpi resolution) along with descriptions of the figures and photographs as well as the captions of figures. Previously printed visual materials should be supplied electronically together with the written consent of the publisher for reprint.

Charts. Charts should be prepared in MS Word and added at the end of the main text. Authors are asked to avoid manual formatting of the table content using Enter and Space keys.

Tables. Tables should be prepared MS Excel and send as separate files attached to manuscript.

Clinical vignette
A clinical vignette is a brief description of an interesting, rare and clinically instructive case accompanied by 2 to 4 figures of good quality and resolution. A clinical vignette should not exceed 500 words (including title and titles of the figures), written in Times New Roman, 12 points, double-spaced.
Clinical vignette should not be accompanied by a list of references, and is accepted for publication only in English. The number of authors of a clinical vignette cannot exceed five.
Particularly interesting figures from the case description may be placed by the Editorial Board on the cover of the Journal, in the issue in which the given clinical vignette is printed.
Figures and photographs should be numbered consecutively with the Arabic numerals and submitted in separate files. Each figure and each photograph should be titled and its position in the text should be indicated. Figures and photographs should be submitted as .tif, .jpg or .gif files with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Titles of figures and photographs should be listed at the end of the main text.

Sending the manuscript to the journal

All articles (together with tables, figures and photographs) should be submitted electronically using the electronic manuscript subbmission panel avaiable on our website.

By sending the manuscript with figures and charts the author (authors) declares (declare) it has been neither published nor submitted to the Editorial Board of any other journal (not including the abstracts 400 words or less). Moreover, it is assumed that the copyright for publishing and distribution of the submitted material (in all known now and developed in the future forms and fields of exploitation) are automatically and free-of-charge transferred to the Polish Society for Nuclear Medicine & VM Media sp. z o.o. VM Group sp.k., Grupa Via Medica, under condition that those materials are accepted for publication. The authors accept the fact, that the work will not be published anywhere and in any language without the prior written consent of the owner of the copyrights.
Independently to the formerly mentioned effects, author (authors) due to release from the responsibilities to the third parties, shall (should) attach the author statement to the manuscript. The author statement shall contain declaration of the author (authors) confirming formerly described facts and that all coauthors of the manuscript agree for the publication. Moreover the author (authors) confirm that they have acquaint themselves with the editorial policy in NMR and they oblige to respect the policy. The reward for sending the manuscript is publication in the journal.
The written permission from the previous Publisher for the reprint should be enclosed to the materials (pictures, photos, figures, etc.) that have been printed previously. If the data presented in the clinical vignettes, figures or in the text enable identification of the persons their written consent to the publication should be enclosed. Any potential conflict of interest will be dealt with by the local court specific to the Publisher.
Legal relations between the Publisher and the author(s) are in accordance with Polish law and with international conventions binding to Poland. The legal bases to acquiring the copyright are article 921 section 3 sentence 3 of the civil code in connection with article 50 of the copyright law and related law as well as the international conventions binding to Poland.

AUTHORSHIP

All collaborators who have made significant and substantial contributions to a study are considered coauthors. The nature and level of contribution of all authors of accepted manuscripts must be indicated, i.e. conception, design, execution and interpretation of the data being published, wrote the paper. An author may list more than one contribution, and more than one author may have contributed to the same aspect of the work. Other contributions to the work, such as providing of reagents or analytic tools, should be listed in the Acknowledgements. Ghostwriting and guest-authorship are forbidden. In case of detecting ghost written manuscripts, actions will be taken involving both the submitting authors and the participants involved.

Please, if applicable state that the study was reviewed and approved by an Ethics Committee and that patients/participants provided their written informed consent to participate in this study. If not applicable, please explain why ethical approval and/or consent were not required.

Any possible conflicts of interest regarding the submitted article should be described for each author, or authors should declare they have no conflict of interest related to the submitted manuscript.
