Post-COVID PASC syndrome. Syndromes after vaccination against SARS-Cov-2

Jolanta Smykiewicz1, Jakub Buczkowski1, Marek Mirowski2, Ryszard Tomasiuk1

Abstract

The review aims to present a report containing information on the etiopathogenesis of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the problem of persistent COVID-19 in patients after acute COVID-19, known as Long COVID, post-acute sequence of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) syndrome. The review highlights the impact on some organs: the respiratory system, the affinity of SARS-CoV-2 for the nervous system, thromboembolic complications also after the use of an mRNA-based vaccine, the impact on the vascular endothelium, the impact on the pancreas and developing diabetes both after SARS-CoV-2  infection as well as after vaccination. The work also describes some Long COVID disease entities, with particular emphasis on the problem of the emergence of autoimmune diseases, type 1 and type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance, as well as the current new nomenclature of post-vaccination syndromes (PCVS, ACVS, PACVS).
