Abstract

Abstract: A case of a 49-year-old female with patent ductus arteriosus complicated by severe pulmonary hypertension is presented. The patent ductus arteriosus was successfully closed by the Amplatzer duct occluder. The physical capacity improved from functional NYHA class III at baseline to class I one month after the procedure. A significant reduction of systolic blood pressure in the pulmonary artery and pulmonary resistance was also observed. Indications for transcatheter closure of the patent ductus arteriosus in patients with severe pulmonary hypertension are discussed.
