Case report Acute coronary syndrome induced by hypoglycaemiain the course of insulinoma - a case report

Abstract

Insulinoma is the most frequent endocrine tumour of the pancreas derived from the beta cells which, while retaining the abilityto synthesise and secrete insulin, is autonomous from the normal feedback mechanisms. The characteristic clinical manifestationof this neoplasm is fasting hypoglycaemia, with sympathoadrenal and neuroglycopenic symptoms. In extremely rare cases insulinoma can be a cause of acute coronary syndrome. Surgical removal is the treatment of choice and recurrences are uncommon. We report a case of a 74-year-old man with acute coronary syndrome caused by adrenergic stimulation during severe hypoglycaemic seizures in the course of insulinoma.
