Abstract
Stent thrombosis after drug eluting stent implantation has been reported to occur a few hours to over dozen months after the procedure and usually within the 4 weeks after discontinuation of antiplatelet medication. We present a case of a very late stent thrombosis which occurred 12 months after paclitaxel eluting stent implantation and four days after clopidogrel discontinuation despide aspirin continuation, and resulted in acute myocardial infarction. The patient was successfully treated with coronary angioplasty and was advised to use clopidogrel indefinitely. This case underlines the possible need for long term antiplatelet medication among patients receiving paclitaxel eluting stents.
