Infectious etiopathogenesis of lymphomas

Ewa Stefanko, Tomasz Wróbel
Hematologia 2010;1(4):288-295.

Abstract

Lymphomas are heterogeneous group of malignant diseases of lymphatic system in terms of epidemiological, histopathological and clinical behaviour. Many epidemiological studies have confirmed infectious etiopathogenesis of some subtypes of lymphomas. Infectious agents may influence the formation of lymphomas by direct tropism for lymphocytes leading to their neoplastic transformation, induction of immunosupression, or by chronic stimulation of the immune system. This article presents the most common pathogens associated with the development of non-Hodgkin and Hodgkin lymphomas.
