Classifi cation and diagnosis of von Willebrand disease

Ksenia Bykowska
Hematologia 2013;4(1):24-34.

Abstract

Von Willebrand disease (vWD) is the most common inherited bleeding disorder which results from quantitative or qualitative defect of plasma glycoprotein, von Willebrand factor (vWF). The diagnosis is difficult and multistep because of its clinical and molecular heterogeneity. The interpretation of laboratory results, especially in type 1 vWD, may be challenging due to pathophysiological variability of vWF.
