Abstract

Patients after kidney transplantation may have complications from the eye. It is caused by both chronic immunosuppressive treatment and diseases that the patient is burdened with before kidney transplantation and those that he develops after transplantation. The most important diseases affecting the condition of the eyes are diabetes and hypertension. Eye diseases such as glaucoma are also not without impact. The most common ocular complications that may occur in kidney transplant patients include: posterior cataract, steroid glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive angiopathy. The rare ocular complications in this group of patients include: optic neuropathy, intraocular infections (caused by cytomegalovirus or fungal infection), optic neuritis or the appearance of epiretinal membrane. This article discusses the most important ophthalmological conditions in kidney transplant patients.
