Honorary Members of the Polish Society of Nephrology. Part XX — Professor Vittorio Bonomini
Abstract
This work completes the fifth year of publications on the Honorary Members of the Polish Society of Nephrology (PTN) in „Forum Nefrologiczne”. It was during this period that the authors, themselves members of the PTN’s Historical Section, occasionally supported by outstanding Polish nephrologists professionally related to the characters sketched in the articles, have depicted the crucial facts concerning the lives and professional activities of as many as nineteen honorary members of the PTN. The series opened with the presentation of the founder and the first President of the PTN, Professor Tadeusz Orłowski while the latest issue featured Professor Edmund Nartowicz from Bydgoszcz, Poland. This time, the authors embark on a trip to Italy to pay tribute to Bologna’s Professor Vittorio Bonomini, one of the founders of the Italian Society of Nephrology, the Head of the Institute of Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation at the Univeristy of Bologna, Italy. A member and a prominent figure of numerous Italian and international scientific associations V. Bonomini left his mark as one of the pioneers of renal biopsy in patients with renal diseases. His noteworthy achievements won him a number of prestigious awards from scientific societies, universities and other institutions. Vittorio Bonomini is the first Italian presented in the series.
