Abstract

Acute kidney injury is one of possible consequences of the systemic inflammatory response. Early commencement of the therapy can prevent irreversible damage, but the condition remains a serious interdisciplinary problem, strongly aggravating patient’s overall condition. We present a 68-year old patient with recurring septic infections, who developed an acute renal injury. Multiple chronic comorbidities, many potential sources of infections and the rapid alterations of kidney function delayed the diagnosis of the infective endocarditis caused by an implanted electrode of the cardioverter-defibrillator.
