Abstract

Fungal infections account for about 5% of all infections occurring in patients after kidney transplantation (KTx). Considering the absence of specific symptoms of systemic mycosis and the high mortality associated with its occurrence, as well as diagnostic difficulties, an immediate implementation of empirical, preventive treatment is called for already at the moment of first suspicion. This article discusses the most common forms of invasive mycosis, relevant diagnostic procedures, and treatment regimes with available pharmacotherapy, with particular emphasis on the interaction of antifungal agents with immunosuppressive drugs.
