Honorary Members of the Polish Society of Nephrology. Part XVII — Professor Wojciech Rowiński
Abstract
It was in 2013 when the authors started their series of publications on the honorary members of the Polish Society of Nephrology (PTN) in “Forum Nefrologiczne”. It seemed natural to begin with the depiction of the character of Prof. Tadeusz Orłowski, the eminent Polish internist, nephrologist and transplantologist, the first President of the PTN. In the course of the next four years we have presented biographical notes of 15 other honorary members both from Poland and abroad with that of Prof. Eberhard Ritz being the latest one. This time we set to present Prof. Wojciech Rowiński, the outstanding Polish transplant surgeon, one of the members of the team to perform the first successful kidney transplant in Warsaw in 1966. W. Rowiński was the Head of the General and Transplant Surgery Clinic at the Medical Academy in Warsaw, as well as the President of the Polish Transplantation Society. Wojciech Rowiński also played numerous significant roles in Polish and international scientific societies and associations.
