Abstract

For hemodialysis patients, a smooth vascular access ensures comfort of treatment and improves the quality of life. Over the last century, the development of creating the most secure vascular access for hemodialysis has been very intensive. The priority for doctors and nephrology nurses is maintaining this „life line” of patients at its best. The purpose of this article is presentation of technical information helpful in cannulating of arteriovenous fistulas in dialysis patients with the use of buttonhole method. Further, it shows the potential of the titanium, extravascular, subcutaneous access device when it comes to repeated access to the fistula in a fixed injection site for dialysis.
