Chronic heart failure in dialyzed patients — diagnostic and therapeutic challenges

Hanna Bachórzewska-Gajewska, Jolanta Małyszko
Forum Nefrologiczne 2015;8(2):76-85.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease are tightly associated and there is mounting evidence of inter-organ crosstalk that may accelerate pathological processes and the progression of organ dysfunction for both systems. This process, was named cardiorenal syndrome, and is considered to be a major health problem as patients with both diseases are at much higher risk of mortality than patients with either condition in isolation. Chronic heart failure is frequently observed in patients with chronic kidney disease. In this review diagnosis, epidemiology, and therapy of chronic heart failure was presented with particular interest on dialyzed patients. Diagnostic and therapeutic challenges were stressed in this population.
