Forum Nefrologiczne 2014;7(3):187-190.
Abstract
Renal artery stenosis causing kidney cirrhosis is uncommon reason of secondary polycythaemia. Red blood cells amount incerased due to inadequate erythropoietin secretion leads to the development of hypersplenism and secondary thrombocytopenia. Additionally it comes to compensatory healthy kidney hypertrophia resulting in the urea and creatinine levels being normal for a long time. The following article describes the case of a patient with stenosis of right renal artery which caused kidney cirrhosis and later polycythaemia and splenomegaly.
