Abstract

Secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHP) is a reversible state of increased secretion of parathormone (PTH)by the parathyroid glands secondary overgrown. The number of patients with renal failure treated with dialysisis increasing with the aging of population, it predisposes to the appearance of secondary hyperparathyroidism. In order to diagnose the disease process the results of biochemical analysis and the results of imaging studies are taken into consideration. Diagnostic imaging is dominated by two methods: high-resolution ultrasonography with color Doppler (ultrasound/CD) and 99mTc-MIBI (2-metoksyizobutyloizonitryl labeled with technetium-99m) scintigraphy. The most significant treatment for hyperparathyroidism is surgical excisionof hyperactive glands, therefore, the exact location of hyperactive preoperative parathyroid should be determined by imaging methods.
