Aminoacid ketoanalouges in malnourished patients with chronic kidney disease

Paulina Borek, Michał Chmielewski
Forum Nefrologiczne 2014;7(2):75-80.

Abstract

Low-protein diet is an acknowledged component of nephroprotection. Diminishing the symptoms of uremia, it allows a delayed initiation of renal replacement therapy. On the other hand, malnutrition, a common complication of chronic kidney disease (CKD) requires a determined treatment based on a high-energy and high-protein diet. The article presents the current knowledge on the low-protein diet in CKD, high-protein diet in malnutrition, and on the attempts to minimize this discrepancy in malnourished CKD subjects with the use of aminoacid ketoanalouges.
