Gout as the cause of necrotic cutaneous lesions of the hands
open access
Abstract
In this case a 41-year-old man with a history of undiagnosed gout which led to the development of significant hand joint deformation and necrotic lesions causing the necessity of the amputation of the 3rd phalanx of the right hand. Gout is relatively common disorder. Usually, the typical manifestation of the disease does not cause any problems with the proper diagnosis, however, the more atypical course, e.g. long-term chronic arthritis with mild severity may represent a significant diagnostic challenge for clinicians.
