Clinical aspects of gliclazide in modified- -release form use in the treatment of type 2 diabetes

Abstract

This paper was performed to evaluate a second-generation sulfonylurea compound of gliclazide in prolonged- release form use in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Gliclazide provides very stable blood glucose control and lower risk of hypoglycemia over some second-generation sulfonylureas. Gliclazide is effective, safe and well tolerated. Many studies indicate that gliclazide has a number of pleiotropic effects and clinical beneficial extrapancreatic activity. Also has been shown to be safe in combination with other oral agent therapy.
